As the CMPA’s Associate CEO, Dr. Todd Watkins serves as a member of the executive leadership team with key accountabilities in the areas of Strategy, Organizational Transformation and Corporate Services. He is also Chair of the Board of Dow’s Lake Court as subsidiary of the CMPA. Over his thirteen years at the Association, he has held the positions of Director of Physician Services, Managing Director of Physician Services Group and Managing Director of Executive Services and Governance.
Before joining the CMPA in 2012, Dr. Watkins spent 13 years as the director of professional affairs at the Canadian Medical Association. In this role, he was responsible for medical stakeholder relations, medical education, accreditation, and patient safety.
Dr. Watkins was also the founding director of the CMA Centre for Physician Health and Wellbeing and has been passionate about supporting physicians and the profession throughout his career.
He spent the early years of his career as an adjunct lecturer in the department of family medicine at Queen’s University, the medical director of a regional healthcare initiative, and a member of a rural group practice. Dr. Watkins attained his medical degree from Western University, followed by postgraduate training in family medicine at Queen’s University. He also holds the designation of Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) and achieved the ICD.D. designation for corporate governance in 2025.
